I’ve been posting a lot of pictures of my son on Instagram because he really is doing well and loving high school which has made me proud as can be but I didn’t realize how it could affect other moms. Someone said to me the other day, “I don’t even want to swear in front of you because you’re the perfect soccer mom with the perfect kid.” I felt bad because I literally burst out laughing in her face but REALLY? First of all, I have a mouth like a trucker although I don’t swear online at all. Second, perfect mom? I am sooooooo far from it. Third, my son is a total animal and pain-in-the-butt although I do adore him. Her comment made me write a post about the REAL moments behind the nice pictures.
Nice Picture: My Son, The Soccer Star
Reality: This is an awesome picture of my son playing soccer. This picture looks like he is a soccer star but he didn’t score one goal this year and his team lost pretty much every game even though they were poised to have an awesome season.
After he saw me take this picture he growled from the field, “STOP MOM! GOD!” The disgust he had for me for DARING to take a picture was deep.
Reality: The darling boys you see before you spent the night before this picture was taken throwing each other’s clothes out the 8th story window and had security called on them for being so loud. I went in their room about 100 times and finally screamed, “IF YOU’RE PLAYING A GAME CALLED ‘MAKE MS. GIBB FLIP OUT’, YOU’RE ABOUT TO WIN THAT GAME!!!!”
Yes, you should be crying and cowering in fear that these are our future leaders of America.
Nice Picture: My Scallop Dinner
Reality: I wanted to share this because it has been such an easy dinner for me. I just throw lettuce into a bowl and throw some salad dressing on top, make an Uncle Ben’s microwavable cup of rice, and throw scallops into a frying pan with butter for a couple of minutes. It real takes 10 minutes to put together.
I want everyone to know, Tyler and I have had MORE than our fair share of fast food in the drive through. Also, if I panned the camera out further you would have seen my house was a mess because I still hadn’t unpacked from FBLA trip to Washington DC yet.
I am far from perfect, I swear like a sailor, I lose my temper A LOT, I’m raising my son completely alone and struggled financially for most of his younger years but I’m doing my best just like you and everyone else. Don’t ever think anyone else’s life is as awesome as it seems online!
Oh and I had to back date the time on this post because I was late in finishing it. Being late in writing a post about your own imperfections is about as bad as it gets! 😉
